TORONTO - SayWeCanFly's newest video for the track "The Distance That Took You Away" will premiere tomorrow exclusively on Much Music on the Broadcast Cable Television in Canada and Much.com between 6 and 7 p.m. EDT.
"The Distance That Took You Away," the latest single from the debut album, Between The Roses, which recently received a Deluxe Edition release via PureWolf Records, was shot on location in Whitby, Ontario, and Lindsay, Ontario. SayWeCanFly's Braden Barrie chose to once again work with Reel Tang Productions, the team behind the album's hit video for "Song of the Sparrow."
The video gave Barrie an opportunity to bring "The Distance That Took You Away" to life through a more story rather than performance-driven approach. "This gave me more of a chance to focus on subtle emotions and movements, which made it more of an acting challenge, so to speak," Barrie said. "We shot this one almost completely in chronological order too, which made it very natural."
The premise of the video focuses on a haunting memory of someone close to Barrie, feeling real yet not being visible. This is brought to life by Barrie and actress Taryn Albert, who subtly follows in Barrie's footsteps throughout the video. "I am completely unaware of her presence until the end of the video, at which time we connect in a very symbolic way," Barrie said. "It ended up thunder storming near the end of the shoot, so instead of waiting it out I decided I wanted to re-write the ending to capture the rain as part of the atmosphere and story."
SayWeCanFly is a featured artist on this summer's esteemed Vans Warped Tour, appearing every day in the Acoustic Basement Tent.
Barrie has been supporting his debut full-length, Between The Roses, with headline and support dates across the country and overseas since its release earlier this year. The album debuted at # 14 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and #5 on iTunes singer/songwriter chart. Additionally, SayWeCanFly became a featured artist on MTVHits' "Fresh Faces" and won MTVU's "The Freshmen" competition with the first single, "Song of the Sparrow."
At just 20 years old, Barrie offers a remarkable maturity, expressing raw feelings and offering a sense of hope, inspiration and understanding that fans of all ages can relate to. Much of SayWeCanFly's early success can be attributed to Barrie's strong social media presence and deep connection with his fans.
